The Whole Foods Test

Published: December 10, 2025

Remember March 2020?

I walked into Whole Foods and the shelves were empty. Not "low on a few items" empty. EMPTY empty. People were panicking. I watched a woman grab the last two cans of chickpeas like they were gold bars.

I walked out and drove home. Calmly. Because we were already prepared.

That's the Whole Foods Test

Can you walk into a store during a crisis, see empty shelves, and feel calm?

Can you shrug, maybe grab a few things if they have them, and go home knowing your family is completely taken care of?

That's what preparedness gives you. Not fear. Not paranoia. Just... calm.

The Test Nobody Expected

COVID wasn't the disaster we prepped for. It wasn't a hurricane or a power outage. But it was definitely a test.

Honestly? We did pretty well. We had enough food that we didn't need to fight the crowds for months. Already had medical supplies on hand (Thank you ER Dr. Juli!). Work-from-home setup was already solid with backup internet in place.

Where we learned something: Supply chain disruptions lasted much longer than expected and affected things we had not planned for. FREEZERS? Remember Freezers? And toilet paper, don't get me started. Could have used more variety in food storage. Important to prep on daily items, toiletries and more. Entertainment for extended lockdowns? Noted.

Every test teaches you something. That's the point.

The Lesson

Everyone became a prepper in March 2020. For about two weeks. Then things went back to "normal" and most people forgot the lessons they had learned.

But supply chains are fragile. There's roughly 3 days of food in your average grocery store at any given time. That's it.

The question isn't IF shelves will be empty again. It's WHEN.

Next time, will you be panicking? Or will you be calm?

Why We Focus on Foundations

You don't get to choose your emergency. You don't get to pick the disaster that tests your preps.

So you build a foundation that works for MANY scenarios — not just the one you're most worried about:

These basics apply whether it's a hurricane, a pandemic, a job loss, or a supply chain hiccup. Get the foundation right, and you're ready for most of what life throws at you.

That's why we prep. Not because we're scared. Because we refuse to be the people fighting over chickpeas.
